ABSTRACT

Natural extracts can be playing a good role in enzyme induction. Cotton stalks were found to be excellent substrate for basidiomycets cultivation. In this work, the effects of cotton- stalk extract (CSE) on fungal growth and laccase activity were studied. It was found that CSE could stimulate extracellular laccase acitivity in sumerged cultures. Induction of laccase activity was dependent upon the concentration of supplemented extract. Stimulation of enzyme was observed as early as 3 h after amendment of CSE and the addition of glucose was suitable to increase the effect of inducer on laccase production.
