MAXIMUM A POSTERIORI FILTERS FOR SAR IMAGE RESTORATION

ABSTRACT

Airborne synthetic-aperture-radar (SAR) systems employ coherent techniques to generate images of terrain in the microwave region of the spectrum. The high degree of coherence required by radar system, usually, results in the presence of an image speckles, which makes SAR image interpretation not easy. In our present work, speckle noise is modeled and simulated by two different methods. Textured regions are simulated, their behavior are compared with that of the actual SAR images. Maximum a Posteriori Filter technique is adopted to suppress SAR image noise. The result of the adaptive MAP filter is compared with the results of other proposed smoothing filters.
