ABSTRACT

Air pollution study and evaluation for the industrial and the traffic congested areas in the city of Baghdad is continued through the measurement of the concentration of SPM, Pb, SO2, H2S, NO2, HC, CO, as a part of a program which started in 1998. The previously selected stations were sampled during 2000. Results indicate high concentrations of SPM ranging between 1622 fig/m3 at Bab alsharji and 385 µg/m3 at Alyarmook. Pollution with lead is high especially at Alwazeria (39 ppm) and Alshamaie (23.7 ppm), although these values were lower than the values obtained for 1998,1999. The concentration values of N02,H2S,S02, CO,HC gases are all above the permissible concentration levels. These high values are attributed to high traffic, fuel leaded additives, together with managed and unmanaged industries in the city.
